Gossip Girl Author Loves the Show, Hates Vanessa

Adaptations from page to screen can be bumpy, but Gossip Girl author Cecily von Ziegesar says overall Josh Schwartz and his crew have been spot-on.

“I’m a very faithful watcher… Generally I’m entertained and I think it’s great,” she tells MTV.com. Von Ziegesar does have one bone to pick with the producers: their depiction of the TV version of Vanessa, played by Jessica Szohr.

“I think Vanessa is one character they ruined,” she says. “In the book, she’s kick-ass and has a shaved head and wears lots of black. I think a lot of the readers who don’t usually read teen fiction identify with Vanessa,” In the show, Vanessa has more of a bohemian hipster look.

The author clarifies that it has nothing to do with Szohr, adding: “I just wish Vanessa was like she is in the books a bit more.”

She may disapprove of Dan Humprey’s bff, but von Ziegesar gives the rest of the characters a thumbs up, admitting she loves bad boy Chuck Bass.

“Leighton Meester is totally perfect for Blair, and Blake [Lively] is perfect for Serena. I was more worried they would insert Barbie-doll-looking people, which they didn’t,” says von Ziegesar. “I think the actors do a brilliant job. Chuck is my favorite character, and the way he looks and acts is in keeping with how he is in the beginning of the series.” –Christina Tapper

OMFGG: Gossip Girl Soundtrack is Out Today!

THE SOUND OF GOSSIP

The Kills were there when Serena apologized to Chuck for his illicit deliveries, when Lily watched the sex tape, and now, when you finally break up with your deadbeat boyfriend.
Our favorite TV show is about to become our favorite soundtrack, with the release of OMFGG No. 1 (yes, that stands for Original Music From Gossip Girl). The track listing reads like a who’s who of the indie scene: among the 15 tracks are songs by The Kooks, The Virgins, The Ting Tings, and of course, The Kills.
The album won’t be hitting stores until October 28, but you can get a digital copy starting today, September 2 on iTunes!
And if all goes well, the plan is to make this soundtrack the first of many; if Seth Cohen had his indie favorites on six OC mixes, then it’s only fitting that Gossip Girl gets several installments. Although it’s not like you needed another reason to tune in.

Chace Crawford Reveals Gossip Girl RIVALRIES!

Chace Crawford has hinted his co-stars on the TV hit series Gossip Girl do not get along.

The actor admits there is particular tension between co-stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester–but only during filming.

He says, “There are obviously always little dramas. You are on set for 16 hours, so people get irritable. In any workplace there are always little things and frustrations.”

“Leighton and Blake could not be more different from each other but as far as I know there has never been any real difficulty. We are all good friends and we go out socially together.”

Taylor Momsen: Gossip Girl's IT GIRL?

Taylor Momsen, who plays social climber Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl, has quickly becoming the breakout star of the CW show, according to the New York Observer.

While her co-stars Chace Crawford and Blake Lively have their share of fans, the Observer says that Momsen’s portrayal of the manipulative Jenny Humphrey saved the show from an early death.

In the book series the show is based off of, Jenny is a “busty, curly-haired” social outcast “who is constantly getting trampled on.” But producers decided early on to take her character in a different direction.

“We wanted a character that in this journey of trying to fit in at school might actually succeed in her goal and even triumph over the other girls at some point,” said show writer Stephanie Savage.

So far Jenny has triumphed, briefly dethroning queen bee Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) in the middle of season one, and while she fell out of the in crowd, next season (which starts September 1) will bring some new drama for her.

Savage, who is the driving force behind the character, calls Jenny the new Eve Harrington, the scheming character from 1950’s movie All About Eve who inserts herself into Broadway star Margo Channing’s life and destroys Channing in the process.

Says Savage: “With Jenny, there’s that sense of a very intelligent, observant young girl looking around and going, ‘You know, I’m not as rich as these girls, and I don’t have that leg up because of my family, but I’m just as pretty and I think that I’m smarter, so if I play my cards right, I can win this game.’” –Emmet Sullivan

Once the rubbish pilot is out of the way, Josh ‘The OC’ Schwartz’s glossy new drama is a sparky pleasure. Spilling the goss on a privileged circle of NY teens with the help of texts and blogs from the omniscient, anonymous Gossip Girl (voiced by Veronica Mars’ Kristen Bell), it’s trashy and scathing, but with enough heart to counterbalance the rich-kid partying. Treasure the second-half sight of Michelle Trachtenberg all growed up since her time as Dawn on Buffy, and, while the characters aren’t as immediately lovable as The OC’s, there’s still enough designer intrigue and relationship angst for this to spice up the schedules.

I uploaded many more pics from the premiere!! Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford, and Matthew Settle (Rufus) all attended the premiere of Blake Lively's new flick, "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" along with her costars from the movie. Blake wore a gorgeous yet simple floor-length orange gown and looked absolutely beautiful! But the real mystery is, why didn't Penn Badgley attend? Most of her other GG costars were there except for him...interesting
